Cara Carriveau is one of the most popular and richest Radio Personality who was born on June 12, 1966 in Detroit, Michigan, United States. While attending Central Michigan University, her first job in radio was at 95.3 “The New Foxy 95”, WCFX in Clare. In 1986, she was hired to fill in for WCFX’s weekend overnight/fill-in personalities. She was promoted quickly to full-time evenings (7pm – midnight), and finally middays (10am – 2pm) and Production Director.
Carriveau, who was unable to make it on the air for a while because she had to care for her son, decided that her passion of interviewing rock stars, and entertainers, would be pursued. Carriveau started Cara’s Basement podcast in February 2007, and she continues to host it.
On March 2, 2018 Cara parted ways with WSHE. Cara began hosting middays nationwide on Local Radio Network’s classic rock format on April 9, 2018 and joined the air staff at Chicago’s 94.7 WLS-FM in July, 2019.
Her position included anchoring the news and serving as a sidekick for the nationally syndicated Kevin Matthews Morning Show, which originates from the John Hancock Building’s WLUP studios. Carriveau hosted weekends on 95.1 WIIL “95 Will Rock”, Kenosha, Wisconsin later that year. In March 1996, she was offered the simultaneous position at WIIL as morning show sidekick/news anchor and midday host (via voicetracking). She also hosted weekends at Rock 103.5 WRCX in Chicago, Illinois. Carriveau was then pregnant with her first baby.

She began hosting overnights on 103.9 WABT “The Wabbit”, Dundee, Illinois in 1989. She moved to evenings (7pm – 12am) within a year and then began hosting middays (10am – 3pm) within a year. In addition, she was appointed Assistant Program Director. In 1992, she was named Program Director and her on-air shift was shortened to 10 am – noon in order to meet her new responsibilities. She remained with WABT until 1995 when the station was sold. In 1995, she was promoted to Program Director at Shadow Broadcast Services, Chicago, Illinois, using her newly-acquired married name Cara Carriveau.
Carriveau quit WIIL in 1996 to be with her daughter. She then decided to work only part-time for WRCX to allow her more time as a mother. After WRCX changed its format in 1998, and ended the entire staff, Carriveau briefly worked at WTMX, hosting evenings and middays for vacationing radio personalities. She then started working part-time at 97.9 WLUP, “The Loop”, in January 1999. In two months, she was promoted to full time evenings (7pm – midnight) and to middays (9am – 2pm) in 2000. She remained with WLUP until 2006 when she was fired. Robert Feder, a Chicago Sun-Times columnist, had written a letter in which she lamented about the loss of legendary radio personalities.
During this time Carriveau also began providing artist interviews for The Chicago Music Guide and providing blog content for The NBC5 Street Team. She returned to the Chicago radio airwaves, working weekends and often filling in weekdays at WTMX beginning in November, 2006. Carriveau was chosen to host middays full-time in July, 2008 after a nationwide search. In 2010 and 2012 she was named “Best Radio Personality, Major Market” by the Illinois Broadcasters Association, winning first place Silver Dome awards. After spending five years hosting middays at 101.9 The MIX, she moved to sister station Chicago’s 100.3 WILV on January 14, 2013 hosting evenings. She was promoted to afternoon drive in July, 2014 and continues in that capacity after WILV changed call letters to WSHE in March 2015. She also began blogging for The Local Tourist and was appointed “Music X-Pert” in 2013.
